Piotr Müller appointed Deputy Minister of Science

Piotr Müller, former director of the Minister's Office in the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, was appointed Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Science by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, the Ministry of Science announced Monday.

The responsibilities of the new deputy minister will include legislative work of the ministry, student affairs, as well as information and promotion activities of the ministry.

Müller replaced Łukasz Szumowski, appointed Minister of Health after the last week's reconstruction of the government.

Piotr Müller was born in 1989 in Słupsk. He is a lawyer and a graduate of the University of Warsaw. He studied at the College of Inter-area Individual Studies in the Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Warsaw. During his studies, he held a two-year term as chairman of the Board of the Students\' Government of the University of Warsaw. He was then elected President of the Students' Parliament of the Republic of Poland by the representatives of students' governments of Polish universities.

In 2010-2014 he was a member of the Senate of the University of Warsaw, where he sat on the legal-statutory committee and the finance committee.

He was also an expert of the Polish Accreditation Committee and a member of the Polish Accreditation Committee Presidium (2013-2014), and in the years 2012-2016 a member of the Management Board of the University of Warsaw Foundation.

Müller was also a member of the Council of the Foundation for the Quality of Education, the Commission for Student Loans, the Disciplinary Commission for academic teachers at the General Council of Science and Higher Education, and the Program Council of the Open and Multimedia Education Centre at the University of Warsaw.

From November 2015 to April 2017, Müller was an advisor to Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Science and Higher Education Jarosław Gowin. He was then appointed director of the Minister's Office. His responsibilities included carrying out tasks related to cooperation with the Sejm and the Senate of the Republic of Poland, shaping the image of the ministry and conducting the promotional and informational policy, including the media policy, as well as activities related to external and internal communication of the ministry.

In February 2017, he joined the legislative team preparing a draft of the new Law on Higher Education and Science, the so-called Law 2.0, also referred to as the Constitution for Science.

He was a holder of scholarships of the Prime Minister, the Minister of National Education, the Lesław A. Paga Foundation. In 2011 and 2015 he was a Law and Justice candidate for the Sejm. (PAP)
