Taken by biologist Marek Miś, the stunning pic shows the moment when the daphnia, otherwise known as a water flea, gives birth - magnified by 100x.

Competition judges praise the photograph saying: “The work focuses on all aspects of good science photography: it is technically correct and clearly presents the recorded subject. 

“At the same time, it is presented in a beautiful palette of colours and, which secured the win, presents an extraordinary moment: the birth of the young - which fits perfectly into the +The decisive moment+ concept of photography.”

The Wiki Science Competition (WSC) is an international photo competition which aims to collect photographs documenting the world of science: images showing research objects and results, scientists at work and research equipment. 

As a result, thousands of photos feed Wikimedia Commons every year, expanding the free knowledge resources.

This it is not the first time that a Polish photo in Wikipedia's multimedia resources (Wikimedia Commons) has been appreciated. 

Last year, in the Wiki Loves Monuments competition listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the 'Largest Photography Competition' in the world, a Polish photo took first place, beating 200,000 other photos from 48 countries.
