Women account for 45 percent of research staff in the Polish science sector, a new report has found.

The study by the National Information Processing Institute titled 'Science in Poland 2022', commissioned by the Minister of Education and Science, showed that the largest percentage of women worked in medical and agricultural sciences (58 percent in each). Women researchers also accounted for slightly more than 50 percent staff in the humanities and social sciences.

The largest disproportion between the sexes exists in theological sciences (only 9 percent of women) and engineering and technology (28 percent of women).

At the next stages of a scientific career, the number and share of women among R&D employees decreases. The gender proportions were most balanced among people with a master's degree/master's degree in engineering and a doctorate (49 percent and 51 percent of women, respectively). In the group of habilitated doctors, the share of women was 42 percent. On the other hand, women accounted for only 27 percent of people with the title of professor.

The report presents the most important elements of the characteristics of science in Poland until 2021, and where possible, statistics from 2022 were also included. The publication is available on the RAD-on portal. (PAP)
